Tsavo East National Park


Ashnil Aruba Lodge

Ashnil Aruba Lodge lies in the heart of Tsavo East National Park. The lodge comprises 40 deluxe ensuite guest rooms, a restaurant, swimming pool and other facilities. 8 of the 40 rooms have interconnecting doors, 4 are triple rooms with one interconnecting room. Further 6 luxury tents and 2 rooms suited for disabled persons.

The open sitting restaurant, located in the main building, overlooks the Aruba dam at all angles and can sit a maximum of 150 guests. The wooden deck shaded by canvas umbrellas can be used as extra sitting place during meal times e.g. breakfast, lunch or dinner. The buffet platforms, both warm and cold, sit in the middle of the restaurant for easy access by all. There is a variety of menus to choose from but mainly oriental, international cuisine and a taste of African traditional dishes. The lounge is located in the main building sectored away from the main dining area. The décor has an African touch that makes it a wonderful place to pass time and relax. There is a variety drinks served and the sitting capacity is about 60 guests. After a grueling game drive you can take a dip in the swimming pool or simply relax by the pool which overlooks the game park that. This is the perfect place to relax and laze around in the calm afternoons.

The Lodge has a fully equipped clinic that caters for staff and guests whenever emergencies arise. The nurse will provide assistance at a nominal fee and make referral to a larger well equipped hospital if need be. Ashnil Aruba is not on the main power supply line and sources its power from a generator set. Electricity outlets have 220/240 voltage capacity.



Galdessa Camp

Galdessa Camp is located within Tsavo East National Park, on the banks of the Galana River overlooking the Yatta Plateau, the world’s longest and oldest fossilized lava flow, 15 km upstream of Lugard’s Falls. The riverside location of the lounge and dining room ensure frequent wildlife sightings without the need to leave camp, as the game seeks relief from the heat of the day in the cool waters of the river.

Galdessa Main Camp is located on the southern bank of the Galana River, partially concealed by coppices of doum palms. It provides 12 comfortable and spacious thatched and semi-tented bungalows on wooden platforms, each with an en-suite bathroom and private verandah. One of the bungalows is called honeymoon bungalow. It has an elevated platform with sofa, table and chairs, a romantic spot to relax under the stars surrounded by wildlife. Guests are ensured their privacy as all of the bungalows are situated a good distance apart and natural foliage is used to subtly conceal neighboring bandas. The bathrooms are large and have traditional bucket showers, flush toilets and basins with running water. The camp has a coastal/bush relaxed feel and is designed to blend with the environment using earthy colors and natural woods throughout.

Private Galdessa is situated a short distance from the main camp. It consists of 3 bandas and can be booked on an exclusive basis, allowing your party absolute privacy and the freedom to plan your days and meals as and when you wish. The private camp has its own staff dedicated solely to ensuring that all of your needs are met during your stay. The camp has it's own dining room and lounge. Without leaving the comfort of your camp, you can relax and enjoy the spectacular bird and wildlife that frequent the area, particularly during the dry season.

Private Galdessa provides 3 comfortable and spacious thatched and semi-tented bungalows on wooden platforms, each with an en-suite bathroom and private verandah. The bathrooms are large and have traditional bucket showers, flush toilets and basins with running water. Galdessa Camp is open for 11 months of the year (closed in May).



Manyatta Camp

Manyatta Camp is located on the Tsavo East National Park boundary along Voi River, easily accessible by road, only 5 km off the main Highway and a short driving distance within the grounds of Voi Wildlife lodge. Nestled on the edge of the park it provides a peaceful and tranquil refuge, offering a magnificant view of the Tsavo National Park.

The Camp provides 13 tents on the river side and 11 tents facing the Tsavo National Park. Each tent is spacious with the bathroom, shower and toilet located separately within the tent. The bathrooms are supplied with towels, shampoo, soap and shower gel. Beds are large, beautiful, 4 postered and covered with mosquito nets. At the rear of our each tent is a private swimming pool with seating area and sun lounger's, all this over looking the Voi river where there usually are many elephants and baboons and other wild animals.



Pattersons Safari Camp

Tucked away on the banks of Athi River in Tsavo East National Park, Patterson's Safari Camp is the perfect escape for an extended bush stay, a stop en route in your safari or an overnight bush break from the beaches of the Kenya coast. The camp features 20 en suite tents, all with spacious verandahs offering views of the Tsavo river. The Camp's eco-friendly design provides a low impact, truly natural experience without the need to sacrifice comfort.

Each of the 20 spacious tents is fully furnished with one king or two single beds. On advanced request, an additional bed can be added to make a triple accommodating a child sharing or third adult. The tents have solar generated electricity for lighting and a covered verandah with chairs and tables. The tents are permanently built on raised cement foundations and a thatched roof provides additional protection as well as natural cooling. All tents face the Arthi River with the backdrop of the Yatta Plateau, the world’s longest lava flow formed from the Ol Doinyo Sabuk Mountain which runs 290 km along the western boundary of the National Park above the Arthi River. All tents are surrounded by riverine vegetation, which is maintained in its natural state and is where animals come to feed. Hippo and elephant dung are often seen together with footprints near the tents.

Meals can be served on the banks of the river, al fresco with the shade of trees or in the comfort of the restaurant. There is also a shaded seating area near the reception as well as a fully licensed bar serving a variety of popular beverages. The restaurant is serving three daily meals featuring international cuisine prepared from fresh local Kenya meat and produce. Dishes vary each day and there is always a vegetarian selection.



Voi Safari Lodge

Voi Safari Lodge is located within Tsavo East National Park, near the town of Voi, on a hill high above the plains, overlooking a vast expanse of the African Bush. From here you can simply watch the herds of wild animals roam beneath you or you can get closer by a network of access roads reaching into many corners of the huge Tsavo East National Park. From the Lodge, you can look out onto the three water holes and see the ever-changing Panorama of Africa unfold right before your eyes and at the same time enjoy the luxury of waiters’ service. There is a special ‘HIDE’ down, directly facing one of the waterholes, for the camera enthusiasts affording close-up and candid pictures of the wild animals which do not suspect any human presence.

The Lodge is comfortable, with high standards of comfort and cuisine as found in all Kenya Safari Lodges & Hotels.



Voi Wildlife Lodge

Nestled in the heart of elephant country, Voi Wildlife Lodge is located just 5km off the main highway at Voi. Opened in 2003, the lodge is situated on a 25-acre site on the boundary of Tsavo East National Park. Designed to blend unassumingly into the surrounding environment, the lodge boasts a natural waterhole often attracting big game, including elephant, lion, cheetah, buffalo as well as a rich variety of birdlife.

Accommodating up to 300 guests, all rooms have spacious en-suite bathrooms and are furnished in African decor that is replicated throughout the lodge. The luxury rooms comprise two four-poster beds and views of the Savannah, which one can enjoy from the comfort of one's balcony or terrace. The Tembo Restaurant is constructed using local 'makuti' thatch. It offers a unique dining experience with views across the plains of Tsavo East and the nearby waterhole. The restaurant caters for up to 250 persons and offers a wide selection of international and vegetarian cuisine. Bush breakfasts and packed lunches can be also arranged.

The Safari Spa Bar and lounge offer a spectacular game-viewing platform both night and day. Designed on stilts overlooking the waterhole, the bar extends into the park allowing one to get as close as possible to the sights and sounds of the African bush. Adjacent to the Tembo Restaurant, the Mandhari Bar provides an alternative setting in which to view game and enjoy a 'sun downer' before dinner.



Epiya Chapeyu Safari Camp

Epiya Chapeyu Tented Safari camp (Bigi Camp) is situated in the heart of the Tsavo East National Park on the banks of the Galana River at the foot of the Yatta plateau. Set amongst Doum Palms (Hyphaene Coriacea) and Acacia trees (Acacia Brevispica) it is in perfect harmony with the local indigenous African landscape and vegetation. Elephants, Buffalo, Crocodiles and hippos are regular visitors to the river banks in front of the camp.

Built more than 10 years ago by Walter Bigi, an experienced host with more than 40 years in the bush, he and his son Oscar, are actively involved in the day to day running of this Oasis in the wilderness. The location of the camp has been selected as one of the most spectacular sites in the Tsavo East National Park and has been featured by the BBC. The camp offers visitors an unforgettable opportunity to see and photograph African fauna and flora in this Eden. You can be a part of this real authentic and exciting African safari experience.

The camp's catering facilities offer veritable Italian cuisine. Before dinner, enjoy an aperitif by the river bank and taste one of the camps specialties of 'mini Pizzas', which are cooked on wood embers in their own clay oven… 'bush style'! The recently renovated wooden terrace overlooking the river, offers not only a magnificent view, but a candlelight dinner in the evening under the stunning canopy of stars is an unforgettable experience worthy of a scene from “Out Of Africa”!

The 18 spacious and luxury tents are spread across a large riverside area, offering each guest accommodation with optimum privacy. The tents are all fixed on local flagstone bases, with typical ”makuti” roofs, modern en suite bathroom, double sinks, hot water, shower, flush toilet and all necessay ammenities such as candles, matches, torches insect repellent and/or mosquito coils. Each tent also has its own verandah with view of the Galana River where a wide variety of animals come to drink. The furnishing is completed with 2 comfortable beds (triple and four-bed tents are also available on request), wardrobe, safari chairs and a coffee table. Housed away from the main accommodation are two generators supplying constant electricity until 11:30 pm. Daily electricity resumes at 06:00 am. The Camp's mission is to be as eco-friendly as possible in order to protect the wonderful and unique surrounding environment.



Lion Hill Lodge

Situated on ‘Mlima ya Simba’ (Swahili for lion hill) and adjoining the Tsavo East National Park at Voi Gate, Lion Hill Lodge has a very unique setting. It provides spellbinding views over the renowned scenery and wildlife of the legendary Tsavo, being at the same time conveniently accessible from the main tourist routes. The Lodge boasts traditional architecture with makuti-thatched roofs and natural logs.

The encampment comprises of 8 luxury rooms, 4 luxury tents, a bar and dining room serving traditional and continental cuisine of the highest standards. All the rooms have solid construction yet the Lion Hill Lodge Facilities retain the rural feel with total luxury. The rooms have double or twin beds. Some rooms have one double and one single bed. Mosquito nets are provided in all rooms. It should be noted that being on top of the hill there are generally few mosquitoes. All bathrooms have hot and cold water with modern tiling and fittings. All the tents have a unique design and are very comfortably furnished with their own bathroom with hot and cold water.

The balcony of the tents overlooks the National Park with wildlife coming very close behind the electric fence. The Dining room and Bar overlooks the panorama of the Tsavo East National Park with views of Wildlife immediately below in the Valley. During lunch, a buffet service is on hand and for dinner time, is a la carte service of the highest order. All kinds of Game including elephants, lions, cheetah, leopard and other small Wildlife is regularly seen from the dining room area.



Ndololo Safari Camp

Ndololo Safari Camp enjoys one of the most spectacular sceneries in Tsavo East. The tended camp lies on the broad, thickly forested banks of Voi River. It's accessible throughout the year by all weather roads and is located 7km from Voi gate, 63km from Buchama gate and 36km from Manyani gate.

The camp offers 20 well-spaced tents, each self contained with a verandah and bedroom. Some of the tents have single, double and triple bed's to cater for different tastes. All are furnished in a classic blend of ancient and modern, rich African fine hand carved olive wood furniture, with modern amenities.

The camp has a fully equipped kitchen, a dining room where well prepared and delicious cuisine is served and a well equipped bar serving a variety of drinks. Bush barbeques are also served. The indigenous forests around the camp are home to the big five wild animals and the environments are also frequented by ostrich, zebra, giraffe and many more while the trees are filled with melodies of a wide variety of birds.

After checking in from the evening game drive, visitors take supper at the camp where they share the rich history of Tsavo National Park, the stories of famous man eaters of Tsavo, African culture and general information on Kenya with the very experienced staff of the camp.



Red Elephant Safari Lodge

Red Elephant Safari Lodge is situated just at the border of Tsavo East National Park, only 700 m from Voi Gate and only 5 km from Voi town.

The Lodge offers 13 double rooms and 2 triple rooms which are located at the two wings of the main building. The walls are built with stones and the roof from Makuti (Palm Thatch), the floors are made from Galana stones. All rooms have a wooden ceiling. Each room is self-contained with shower, flush WC and wash hand basin. Hot and cold water are available. The windows are covered with mosquito-nets to protect guests of insects.

The Bush Houses are spacious detached bungalows rooms located at the North wing of the Red Elephant Lodge and facing directly into the Tsavo East National Park. They can be booked as a Single, Double and can also be given out as a Triple Room. From the terrace of the Bush Houses you will have a good view into the park and also get to the Lodge's regular visitors: The Red Elephants of the Tsavo East. Every Bush House has it own theme and is decorated accordingly. Each room is equipped with a fan. The modern brightly lit bathroom completes the picture of this new adventure.

The Safari rooms are divided into the East and West wings and equipped with a terrace at the back. They are totally furnished with natural material got from the environment where the lodge is situated to give it an authentic feel to it. For example the bed, the tables and the tiles on the floor are made from rock stones around the Tsavo East “The quartz” ( these stones are the natural resources used to make glass). The big beds at the Safari rooms are fitted with comfortable mattresses. Every bed is covered by a mosquito net.

The main building is covered by a big makuti roof. The dining room has a setting capacity of 60, breakfast and lunches are served as buffet or by plate service and exclusive dinner is served by French cloche-service, or as African Night at the camp fire. The Camp offers a blend of tasty food which includes a well balanced mix of European and African Cuisine in fresh quality. At the Maasai Bar they offer a variety of national and international drinks and cocktails of their own creation. Relax on the Bar chairs or on the bar tables and enjoy your drink. A sun deck is provided with sun beds and chairs. A small round pool (4.6 mts avarage and 1.1 mts deep) is open for swimming during sunny weather.

With good weather, dinner is served around the campfire ground of the African village in the evening. In the evening, the campfire is lit and guest can enjoy their dinner seated around the fire. Bar services are available at the campfire ground. Traditional musicians sometimes perform music of different Kenyan tribes during dinner.

The Lodge is offering 24 hrs permanent power (230V, 50 cycles), however guests should please note that it is not recommended to plug hair-dryers and and travel irons in the sockets in the rooms; however electric shavers and video cameras can be recharged.

Rock Side Camp (ex Westermann's Safari Camp)

Located between Tsavo East and West, this former hunting camp is a great base to explore both parks. The Tozers, who live here permanently, have transformed this delightful getaway into a luxury destination that's simply but tastefully decorated with en-suite facilities. Accommodations are at the foot of a rocky kopje (small hill) that looks out towards plains in the foreground and mountains in the background. It's all about personal service and individual attention here. The slate, stone, and thatch bar and restaurant with rustic wooden furniture is surrounded by flowering plants and trees — you can't help but feel immediately at home here.

Food is homemade, often homegrown and delicious. Apart from game drives,in both Tsavo Parks you can go for a walk in the bush, climb up the kopje, or just sit with the tipple of your choice by the pool or at the bar and watch the spectacular sunsets. For those who enjoy bird watching, there have been 84 species spotted in one single morning.

The Camp offers 16 cosy wooden bandas and 7 new luxury bungalows, all with en suite facilities.

Rock Side Camp is not an ordinary Camp; they pride theirselves, personal and individual attention to every need of the guests. The Tozers live at the camp on a permanent basis, and over the years, they and their team have done their best in making Rock Side Camp a home in the bush for all guests to enjoy.



Sagala Lodge

Situated at the foothills of the Sagala mountain range lies Sagala Lodge, located only 15 km from Voi within a 5000 acres private wildlife sanctuary bordering Tsavo East National Park and only a few kilometers away from the Tsavo West National Park.

The Lodge comprises of 24 Bandas scattered in the lush gardens of the lodge. All are with en-suite facilities, mosquito nets & verandahs. A swimming pool, a lounge bar and a quality restaurant add to the comfort of your stay. Meals are served in the attractive dining room. The new Oryx Suite meets the requirements of those, who are looking for more luxury while on Safari.

Satao Camp

Nestled amongst trees and surrounding a central watering hole, the semi-circular layout of Satao camp provides an excellent viewing point from each of the tents.

The Camp has 20 tents, made up of 16 family tents and 4 suites. Each tent is constructed of sisal and boroti poles topped with a makuti roof, only the front of the tent is visible as each tent has its own patio with table and chairs. All tents are attractively furnished with locally made beds and unique African designs. Each spacious tent has a private bathroom with running water. The shower however is in the true African style, whereby the camp staff bring hot water in the evening. The bathrooms are very spacious, slate floors with stunning wooden framework, the wash basins sunken into the structure, all fitted with flushing toilet.

The suites have authentic antique writing desks and beautiful African bed and cushion covers. Comfort and the personal touch is what the camp provides you within the bush to ensure your stay is one that you will never forget.

YThe chefs ensure quality food at all times, for breakfast you may choose – continental – full English – pancakes – omelettes – fresh fruits in season. Lunch is served under a 200 year old Tamarind tree where you may watch the elephants at the watering hole. Dinner is served in the restaurant lounge area, from 7-9 pm. After dinner you can relax and enjoy the atmosphere of Tsavo by swapping stories of your days adventures around the camp fire or watch the animals by night from the observation tower.



Sentrim Camp (ex Tarhi)

Sentrim Camp is located in Tsavo East National Park. The tents are spread out in a shadowed glade among Boskia trees. The camp has the atmosphere of the pioneer camps of long ago while providing the luxury of a permanent camp with modern amenities. The main guest area consists of the reception, lounge area, restaurant and bar.

Each of the 19 spacious tents has a modern ensuite bathroom, hot and cold showers, flush toilets, writing desk, mosquito nets and an elevated private terrace for spectacular views of the sunsets and the hills, which have abundant wildlife. The tents have personal closets and sockets for camera battery charging. There is power for lighting in every room. Six of the tents are family tents, 8 are double, 4 twin tents and there is one suite.

The camp provides a spacious and well lit dinning area, a swimming pool with sun beds/ matresses, towels and sun umbrellas. With its own electricity supply by a generator (20v AC, 50Hz), the camp is well lit in the evening, in all tents and public areas.
